Synopsis:

Estrella y la pulsera de los tiempos (our translation: Estrella and the bracelet of times) is a story about the gypsy people. Estrella is 10 years old and is in fifth grade at the Dolores Vargas «La Terremoto» school in Alicante (Spain). Her grandmother has a very special bracelet that will take them both on a journey through the history and culture of the Roma people: how they left India, how they got to Europe, to Spain and specifically to Valencia; how all the Roma families were imprisoned just for being Roma; what those cattle fairs were like; what the traditional festivals are like; what the gastronomy is like… and so many other things.

Activities can be planned to search for information related to the influences of Romani on Spanish and on the different Romany referents that appear, as well as to reflect on the ways in which the white patriarchy has tried to enslave Romany women to take care of services and care for Romany families.

This work is not a picture book as such, but we make the exception of including it in the portal because of its value as material on Roma culture in Spain, available in open access and produced by an organisation of Roma associations.
